We leave tomorrow morning for two weeks in Colorado. I’ll have my lap top, but not sure about internet access. So, this bloggy is probably going to be quiet for a bit.
No worries – I’ll be back on 6/3 and tell you all about the good food I didn’t eat!
Until then…hugs and kisses…me.

I’m nervous about going on vacation and trying to eat. I know we are going to go out to some restaurants, and I’m going to be around some lovely, homemade mexican food. I just hope I can keep myself strong. I do intend on having a bite of this or a bite of that, just for a taste, but other than that, I will be good.
My future is banking on it.

So, the nitty gritty out of the way first – Weigh-in Wednesday:
Starting weight – 321
Previous weight- 312
Current Weight 309
Total loss – 12 pounds
Goal prior to surgery – 15 pounds
In other news, I’m busily knocking some things off of my to-do list of surgery. I attended my first Support Group Meeting last night at Harford Memorial and I actually enjoyed it. It was nice to talk to people who are experiencing the same things I’m going through (there were four of us Pre-ops there) and nice to know that people are willing to get you through the difficult times as well because they know where you’ve been.
I have made my appointment for my upper GI and for my lower leg venous doppler (in July). I have calls in to schedule the Sleep Apnea test and the pulmonary tests. Then its’ just wait wait wait.
Updated To-Do List and Doctor Appointment

1. I have to be a six month physician monitored weight loss plan – and I have to go in every month to get weighed. I’ll make that call tomorrow. I have the diet from the bariatric clinic and I only need to lose 10 to 15 pounds before surgery. Month one down – five months to go.
2. Letter of medical necessity. – No problem. I’ll get that from my primary care doctor.
3. Cardiology consult with stress test. I’ll call and get that scheduled. Scheduled for June 29.
4. Sleep Study. Scheduled June 10th
5. Lab Testing (I have my labwork – I’ll get that done next week)
6. Psychiatric Evalution. I have a list of doctors to chose from. I’ll call and make an appointment. appointment June 4.
7. Gastroenterology Exam. Scheduled July 31
8. Pulmonary consult. Scheduled July 22nd
9. Bilateral venous dopler study lower extremities – Scheduled July 8th
10. Attend one support group for RNY patients – scheduled for May 12.
11. Make out a will
I am also required to begin two journals – one is to specifically be about the weight loss surgery process, the other about my regular thoughts and feelings as a way to replace my usual stress go-to, food. I also have to log my eating for a week along with my thoughts and feelings, and fax that to the behavioral specialist, all the while journaling my food and exercise.
I had my first primary care appointment today. He has given me referrals for everything I need and provided me with a letter of necessity that I have to fax over to the Bariatric office. I’ll do that tomorrow. Dr. Birnbaum is thrilled I’m having the surgery, and was very happy with the diet they put me on over the past couple of weeks. My HgbA1C has dropped from 9.4 to 7.1 and he fully thinks that I’ll be down to a low six in the next couple of months. He cut back on my insulin (yay) and prescribed a vitamin D supplement because I’m low. My cholesterol has gone from over 200 to 149. I’m well on my way.

The spaghetti tonight was good…really filled a comfort food craving I’ve been having. Plus, the sauce was full of veggies leftover from yesterday’s salad. Soooo good!

I finally got some exercise today. I’ve been trapped inside by the rain for the better part of a week and today is the first nice day in a while, so we loaded up Sadie and headed off to the park. Walked one circuit around – 1 mile. I’m quite proud of myself. Need to get out and walk more – I’m supposed to be walking three times a week at least, until I can get into the pool.Exec

I went to Walgreens today to get some things for my Mom’s Mother’s Day Gift. My mom loves dark chocolate, so I got her a couple of Lindt Bars and a package of Dove Dark chocolates. And I walked right by the rest of the candy and didn’t buy any for myself. Yay!
They say it takes 28 days to make a habit. Hopefully in 28 days, walking by chocolate will be a habit I pick up.
