Vacation Nerves

So, Wednesday morning, Mr. G and I board a plane for Denver.  We’ll be spending our annual week with his family.  This time last year, I was still pre-op and really struggling to lose the weight required for surgery.  This year, I’m nearly down to 200 pounds, but I’m still worried.  I’ve never gone on vacation and NOT gained weight.

I love my family in Colorado and can’t wait to go.  Last year we navigated by having a LOT of salads – helpful since my great big Mexican family makes wonderful food that is full of fat.  This year I only worry about the sugar (I don’t dump on fat).  I’m crossing my fingers that I come back to Maryland closer to ONEderland.

And I am excited about vacation.  I adore Colorado and can’t wait to go!

You are such a different person than you were last year. You watch, it is going to be so different! Being so close to Onederland keeps you on your toes! I am only 6 pounds away! And in Colorado, you will probably be so busy enjoying the outdoors that food will be an afterthought! I think you will do great! I’m finding that I enjoy family, relationships, nature and vacations so much more now that they are not centered all around the meals. Have a great time!!

I know…what you say is right. I know that in my heart.

My big fear is tasting something that may have sugar in it and finding out too late.

I’m really looking forward to vacation though. I’m so posting pictures of me fitting in the airplane seat…LOL!

I live in Denver! 🙂 I wish I was feeling good enough for company so we could meet up! Sounds like you come out here a lot though so maybe next time?
I am loving your blog girl. I think you will do great on this vacation. Do the family members know about your surgery?

Christie – we only get to come out about once a year. We wish it were more though. My husband grew up in Sterling, CO, and how has family scattered all over the place. We generally stay a night in Greeley, a couple of nights in Pierce/Ault, a couple of nights in Sterling, a night in Loveland, at least one night in Thornton and one in Commerce City (phew!). And I know you aren’t feeling up to company now…lol…relax and recharge. I felt great about day 7, but days 1 – 6 were horrible!

Yes, family members know. My MIL is so excited to see me (and I her – I LOVE that woman!) and my husband’s cousin in Thornton was the inspiritation for my surgery. He’s six years out now and doing wonderfully, so I picked his brain a lot last year!

Glad you like the blog. I’ve followed yours for a few years now!

Bea, that would be tough having to worry about that. Do you pack a lot of your own snacks and stuff when you go to people’s houses? I don’t dump at all, not the least bit sensitive to sugar (wish I was!) so I don’t have to be too concerned. Which is good because it is in everything it seems. So much of the pasta sauces in Italian dishes now have it added, which is just silly! Enjoy the airplane seats! And your vacation!

We usually hit the Walmart in Greeley our first morning out and stock up on things, so I should be ok. I plan on getting some protein bars – I don’t eat them normally, but will use them if I can’t have a regular meal.

Sugar dumping is no fun. I found out the hard way when I had a piece of bacon that I found out later was sugar cured. OMG…not fun. But I wanted to dump, so my pouch is doing what its supposed to!

That’s awesome! I am so glad you’ll be out here. We are in Northglenn which is right next to Thornton so it would be very easy to see you next time 🙂 I am already feeling SO much better and today is day 5 for me. It’s getting better and better each day.
