OK folks…I decided to try this one out last night because I had been so pleased with the yellow cake and fudge icing.

Well…This cake is awful.  The batter mixed up nicely, but was very light in color for a devil’s food cake.  It baked up nicely, and was light and fluffy.  The icing was stiff but spreadable, but it had a funny smell to it – almost chemical like.  The cake itself has no flavor at all, and the sugar free vanilla icing has a horrible aftertaste and didn’t taste anything like vanilla – it had more of a flavor you can’t describe.

What’s worse is I had a small piece (1/2 of a regular sized serving – which is 1/12th of the cake, so I had 1/24 of the cake) and immediately got sick off of it.  That has nothing to do with the cake itself – just my sensitive pouch.

My husband also tried the cake.  He is a huge choco-holic, and agreed with my assessment.  We threw the rest of the cake in the garbage.

I’d rate this product 0 out of 5 stars.  I will not buy this one again.

good to know. I’ve decided that anything baked with splenda just tastes nasty! I’d rather have a tiny fork-full of the real thing. Tiny. Even if I had to spit it out! lol!

I dump even if I spit it out… 😦 But I’m going to experiment more with my own recipes I think. I don’t care for Splenda at all.

I’m not diabetic, but tried this because my husband is and he really misses his sweets. It tastes really great. I can’t tell the difference between this cake mix and the one that has sugar in it. I just found out today that they also make sugar free icing, so that’s next on the list to try. I recently tried someone’s sugar free brownie mix and that was terrible, but this cake mix really does taste good. Try it!

Oh my GOSH! I have never farted so much in my LIFE from food! I ate it 3 times to be sure it was the mix and whammy… Gas explosion whenever I eat a single cupcake from this mix. Approach with caution. It didn’t taste good enough for this social discomfort. Do not make for parties or do not light a match ha!

Yuck! We did use the sugar free cake mix, so I can’t comment on that, but I did use the vanilla sugar free frosting. First off, I couldn’t even get my spreading spatula in the frosting well, so I had to warm it up a bit so it would at least spread. Spread it on the cake and I took a nibble from the spatula and wished I had done that first. It was a tasteless glob in my mouth. It felt like I was eating paste or lard or something. It kind of stuck to my roof of my mouth and tongue. It was not a pleasurable texture in my mouth.
It did not taste sweet, actually it did not taste like food at all, it just had some weird hard to describe taste. Certainly not vanilla.

I decided to scrape all the frosting off my cake. Poor cake looks horrible now, but I didn’t want to waste both cake and frosting. Once again, I took a small bite to see if it tasted better with the chocolate cake. No it did not! All I could concentrate on was that weird pasty texture mixed in with my yummy moist cake.

I do not recommend the vanilla sugar free frosting to anyone!

I have used the yellow and loved it, but I made my own recipe out of it and not used, nor do I want too!
